Understanding the journey
We are here because we know how confusing it can be when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
We are here because we know how confusing it can be when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
At Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey, our mission is to support small communities by
providing essential personal items such as adult briefs, incontinence pads, wipes, gloves, and barrier ointment during the interim before formal services become
available.
We also assist individuals in navigating and applying for these services when needed.
We share trusted information from the National Institutes of Health, Alzheimer's Association, Area Agency on Aging, and Georgia Hospice Care to help locate local elder care resources, and connect families with their state’s Alzheimer’s Association chapters.
Our goal is to serve as an extended family to those affected by Alzheimer’s—offering heartfelt stories, practical advice, and personal “tricks of the trade” to help reduce stress and foster resilience for both caregivers and their loved ones.
About Us:
Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey was founded in May 2025 and has been serving communities in need ever since. We are proudly based in Southeast Georgia, where we continue to provide compassionate support and essential resources to those affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Friends for the Alzheimer's Journey was founded out of personal experience. I cared for
my mother for eight years as she navigated the challenges of Alzheimer's disease.
During that time, I realized how important it is for others to begin this journey knowing
they are not alone—there are people in their own communities walking a similar path.
The old saying, sharing is caring; has never felt truer than when caring for a loved one
with Alzheimer's. In the beginning, I had no idea what to expect. The symptoms were
unpredictable and inconsistent, and I made mistakes—thankfully, none that harmed my
mother. I didn’t want a textbook “how-to” guide; it was a learn-as-you-go experience. I
often wished I had someone in my community to share insights with.
While speaking with professionals was helpful, I found that connecting with others who
were living—or had lived—the caregiving journey offered a deeper understanding. They
could relate not only to the emotional experience of the person with Alzheimer’s, but
also to my own feelings of isolation, frustration, sadness, and stress.
